2008 Year in Review

2008 Year in Review

1/1/2009

Well, 2008 will be the year we look back on as a big mistake ! We joined the start up series YG390 with high hopes to learn that we now know why most all "spec Engine" series fail. We were never competitive from day one with the series president (also the exclusive engine builder for the series ) vice president & tech man's son's at any race. The playing field definitely was not level and as a previous karter we were "outsiders" to the Quarter Midget fraternity. After multiple engine failures in 15 races MCR Racing decided to end our season early and leave the series in July. We'll leave our year in review at that and look forward to 2009 and moving up to the 125cc Micro sprint class.

12/28/2007

After a disappointing '06 season the MCR Team and Matt rebounded in a big way! The team rebuilt from the ground up during the off season with all new equipment and a tire program from Eric Rendleman Performance out of North Carolina. The only part we didn't change was our engine supplier, Mattlin Racing Inc. The results of hard work and perseverance showed immediately with Matt winning the 1st - 2 races of the season and picking up 12 more before the season ended for a total of 14 wins in 2007! Matt won at Shippensburg Speedway, Hunterstown Speedway and Trailways Speedway. Highlights for the season would be winning at Trailways Speedways annual Fall Spectacular race in a dramatic last lap, last turn pass. Winning the 3rd leg of the Burris Money Series race and a 2nd place finish after starting last at November Fest at Oakland Valley Raceway Park in Orange County, New York.

Matt ended the season with 14 wins, 9 - 2nd place finish, 5 - 3rd place finish, 2 - 4th place finish, 3- 5th place finish, 3 top 10 finishes and 2 DNF's in 36 races in 2007

Matt will take a big step up in 2008 and graduate from kart racing to join the Young Guns YG390 JR. Sprint series. This will be by far Matt's biggest challenge to date. He will be the youngest driver in the series by far and will be strapping into a full suspension racecar for the first time. We will keep our goals conservative for this first season and focus on learning the new sprintcar setups and getting Matt as much seat time as possible. Follow Matt's progress as the season unfolds !!

2006 Year in Review

12/8/2006

After 2 very successful seasons the 2006 season fell way off the high expectation of MCR Racing's goals. With only 4 wins for the season things did not go as hoped for. We learned alot during the year most importantly that the tire program is without a doubt the most important aspect of the kart. By the time we realized what the problem was the season was all but done. The upside is a long and trying season is behind us and we have been focused on the new season and getting all the pieces in place for a complete turn around and to get back to our winning ways! If we were to chose the highlights of the season we would say that the 3 rd place finish out of 16 karts at Trailways Speedway and the 5th place finish out of 18 karts at Novemberfest in New York @ Oakland Valley Raceway Park were our best runs due to the fact we had to move Matt up in class to Blue plate and run with the older kids. Ironically these were the last 2 races of the season for Matt & MCR Racing when we started to get our tire program sorted out!!

Matt ended the season win 4 wins, 8 - 2nd place finish, 9 - 3rd place finish, 1 - 4th place finish, 2 - 5th place finish and 3 DNF's (did not finish)

12/16/2005

Matt ended the 2005 season with 16 wins, although it was one shy of the season goal of 17, Matt still had a better season than 2004, ( 16 wins out of 33 starts ), winning 16 of 25 races entered with 6 - 2nd place finishes, 1 - 3rd place finish and 2 - DNF's. Winning the same amount of races in 8 fewer races, a winning percentage of 64%. Matt won at 4 different tracks : Selinsgrove Racewaypark, Hunterstown Speedway, Trailways Speedway and Oakland Valley Raceway Park. Highlights of the season included a mid-summer 7 race win streak, a long road trip to Oakland Valley Raceway Park in Orange County, New York where Matt set fast time, ( track record for kidkarts we were told from the track official), won both qualifiers and the feature event 1st time ever at the track and won the season ending big race at Trailways Speedway for the 2nd year in a row. After a very successful 3 year run in kidkarts Matt now starts a new chapter in his racing career by entering into the Jr.1 Champ kart class. Matt's desire & determination continue to amaze us all as he looks forward to a new challenge.
